 The perfect gift for the person who has everything except It all started a few summers ago while swimming in Suttons Bay with a rather feisty five-year-old boy named Will. And a plastic shopping bag which just so happened to also hold splashes and waves. It was the way his big brown eyes sparkled back at me behind his wet eyelashes, the way his tanned cheeks framed his laughing smile encouraging me on to gather yet another wave and pour it over his head, further drenching an already wet and weary little body swayed about from a day of diving into and dodging the bigger waves. After each jump-up from the sandy bottom his little forearms would instinctively attempt to nudge the waistband of his water-weighted bathing suit to keep them somewhere on his hips. And each jump-up was followed by another smile, another giggle, and another bagful of waves on his willing little head. His little summer-tanned hands would shoot up to catch the wave, giggling and hugging to himself, for just that brief moment, that splash from the bay. To this day that memory travels with me as a reminder of what a perfect day can be. As merchants in Suttons Bay, one thing we have learned over the years from talking to visitors and seasonal residents of Leelanau County is the desire to know of the county, to experience some of the local flavor, and to take a bit of the county home with them. Whether it be a book, a pound of fudge, a bag full of local cherries, or even a bottle of wine from one of the nearby Leelanau Peninsula wineries. With each plastic bag that left the store, instructions were given about the wonderful waterproof capabilities of the bags, of how you could set them down on something wet and water would not seep up through the bottom, and with a wink and a smile, they would also hear about how great they were for catching waves and splashes, just in case they wanted to have some 'fun' with their beach mates! So the idea was born to catch those memories to be enjoyed year 'round. We have gone out and caught those waves, gathered together those splashes and sealed every bottle with a memory and a smile because we know that 'where there's a Will there's a wave.' In addition to containing a full 1.5 oz. bottle of splash and memory, each bottledwave is also a three-dimensional postcard of the location. The label is a full color picture of the water and surrounding area with a description of the view and the vintage. Every bottledwave travels with a Certificate of Authenticity detailing the date of when the wave was pulled, and what the weather conditions were for that day. An online link to bottledwaves.com is also provided so you can see a photo of how the day and the water looked the day the wave was pulled. We carefully package each bottledwave in a cushion of colorful crinkled paper within a gift box and sealed it closed with a gold bow, and then package that gift box within a crush-proof mailing box because we believe that every wave, every splash, every memory is a gift itself. Each bottledwave is $4.95 plus $3.50 shipping and handling. Shipping is normally via the United States Postal System. Currently we are only able to mail to addresses within the United States.
